Last night at our community gathering, I better understood the power of a school like ours. (This picture was taken by Henry C. after the cleanup)
There was no fundraising draw, or a specific need, and yet hundreds of families converged on McAuliffe after a full day of school! We spent the evening together because we had the opportunity to enjoy one another’s company.
It was very interesting to see our front lawn transform into a grassy park for a few hours. Families gathered all around the school. The lines to get to the ice cream and the wait to order food gave people the opportunity to chat with old friends and make new ones.
These friendships cannot be undervalued. We hope that our children build strong, positive, lifelong friendships. Last night was an example of how you model the value of friendship for them.
Thank you for helping to make McAuliffe the caring community that it is. Thank you for modeling the importance of friendship for your children. And thank you for making last night a success. Enjoy this weekend. Spend time with your family and friends. Make new memories and share old ones.
We look forward to seeing you at the next event.
