Have you read this?

Last night at our Parent Information Night the faculty did a wonderful job of sharing the philosophical tenets behind our program and hands on opportunities for the parents to explore learning that occurs regularly at McAuliffe. As always, the parents had a number of great questions. We’ve answered some of them on our website, and I will also share some of the conversation here, on the blog, in the next few months.

We also talked a bit about interesting reads. You have probably read many of these, but I thought it might be worthwhile sharing a few titles. Please share your favorites!

These are ones we’ve read over the past few years:

The Price of Privilege – Madeline LevineTeach Your Children Well – Madeline Levine
How Children Succeed – Paul Tough
Nurture Shock – Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman
Yardsticks – Chip Wood
Creating Innovators – Tony Wagner
The Hurried Child – David Elkind
Self-Reliance – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Civil Disobedience – Henry David Thoreau

The Death and Life of the Great American School System – Diane Ravitch
Doing School – Denise Clark Pope
Feel-Bad Education – Alfie Kohn
