Resources from Responsive Classroom

“It is possible for every child, in every school to get a high quality education.”- Lora Hodges

Hi Everyone,

Today represented the final of four days of our Responsive Classroom Advance Course. I haven’t seen as dedicated, passionate, or energized group of educators, take time off from their summer…voluntarily! Our goal was to learn new strategies and approaches to enhance their teaching practice. We met that and then some!

Many hoped to learn how to integrate academic elements into their morning meetings. Mission accomplished!

Others wanted to extend their understanding of Academic Choice and Guided Discovery. Done!

Still others hoped to identify ways to blend social emotional and academic learning opportunities. Check!

Friday afternoon…3:30pm. It was the fourth and final day of a training session that teachers and staff had voluntarily given up their summer vacation. There were no tired, bleary eyes typical of a week long training. Instead, there was laughter, and positive energy flowing around the room. Mike’s (our facilitator) day was done but he stayed for another 2 hours to help our teachers brainstorm ideas on how  to rearrange their classrooms to enhance opportunities for Academic Choice. Dedication on all sides!! Does it get any better than this???

So you may be wondering who this facilitator is…I found a youtube of him sharing some of his more recent publications. We interested in these because they are based on Chip Wood’s Yard Sticks. In the upcoming months we’ll be providing a review of them.

Thanks Mike for sharing your time, energy, and dedication to provide us with the tools and strategies to ensure a high quality education experience for our students.
